About the Abington Equine Hospital

Drs. Brad Back and Cat Radtke are a husband and wife veterinary team specializing in horses. Dr. Back is originally from Kentucky, while Dr. Radtke hails from Wisconsin. Their vision to open an equine specific veterinary hospital came to fruition in August 2016 when they opened Abington Equine Hospital, based out of Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania.

In September 2017, Abington Equine Hospital underwent a westward expansion to include State College area. Following the growth of their business, they plan to open doors at a ship-in equine clinic in Boalsburg, PA in October 2017. Abington Equine Hospital serves patients in Central and Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Abington Equine Hospital is being developed in 4 phases and is currently assisting patients in Phase I.

Phase I

Ambulatory Services;
The call coverage area is currently all of Central and Northeastern Pennsylvania. Drs. Back or Radtke will visit your farm or boarding facility to perform needed veterinary care.

Phase II

Ship-in Clinic;
Opening doors in October 2017 on a ship-in equine clinic in Boalsburg, PA, Abington Equine Veterinarians will be providing lameness, routine surgical, minor emergency surgical, and reproductive services. The clinic will offer 5 stalls, 2 treatment areas, surgical and reproductive stocks, and 4 fenced turnout fields with run-in sheds, all set on 14 beautiful acres. The cases in the barn will be monitored 24/7 by stall cameras and veterinary care.

Phase III

Surgical Facility;
Coming Soon! A full equine surgical hospital facility, offering colic surgery, arthroscopy, and more at a central PA location yet to be determined. The hospital site is being selected and will be undergoing renovations with an anticipated opening in 2020. Once open, the hospital facility will include surgical suites, treatment rooms, an area for lameness examinations, and a reproductive management unit.

Dr. Radtke currently offers many on-farm surgical services.

Phase IV

Internal Medicine;
Addition of an internal medicine department and specialist is in the 2-year plan.
