About Abington Equine

Abington Equine opened in 2016 with Ambulatory Services to provide services at patient farms or boarding facilities. In 2017, Abington Equine Hospital moved to the State College area to grow their business to a beautiful 24 acre farm. They now provide a ship-in clinic option for 24/7 monitored care.

In summer 2022, Abington Equine Hospital opened up a brand new facility with 6 stalls, 2 treatment rooms, and 2 surgical suites to provide surgical options to patients that have not been available before in this area.

Dr. Catherine Radtke, DVM, PhD

Dr. Radtke grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she spent many years competing in the hunter/jumper circuit. During high school, she worked as a polo groom and a technician at Wisconsin Equine Clinic and Hospital.

She then received her BS in Animal Science at University of River Falls in 2001, and then completed her DMV at University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2005. She then completed an in-hospital rotating internship at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital from 2005 to 2006.

Dr. Radtke then spent 2 years as a Kentucky Horse Racing Commission Regulatory Veterinarian, and then returned to school in 2008 to complete an orthopedic surgery fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania New Bolton Center. She then completed a large animal surgical residency at University of Prince Edward Island, Atlantic Veterinary College between 2011 and 2014.

In 2014, she earned her PhD in Regenerative Medicine at University of Prince Edward Island, Atlantic Veterinary College. From there, she was an assistant professor of Large Animal Surgery until 2016, when she opened Abington Equine.

Dr. Radtke specializes in lameness, regenerative medicine, and surgery.

Dr. Beth Cottrell, VMD

Dr. Beth grew up in Connecticut as a horse-crazy kid riding Morgan horses with her neighbor. She has always been a lover of music and enjoys playing the violin. She is also an advocate for local LGBTQ youth.

Dr. Beth completed her BS in Biology at Indiana University in Bloominton, Indiana in 1994. From there, she completed her Veterinary Degree at University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1998.

She was also a Havermeyer Fellow at the Behavior Research Lab and Hofman Center for Animal Reproduction. Following this, she completed a one year internship at Rochester Equine Clinic.

Dr. Beth's primary focus is in equine reproduction. Additionally, she has a growing interest in equine behavior.

Dr. Margaret Pelensky, DVM

Dr. Pelensky is from south eastern Pennsylvania where she grew up riding western gymkhana and trail horses. She attended Penn State for her undergraduate education in Animal Science and loved being a part of the College of Agriculture. While at PSU, she hung up the western saddles and switched to hunter jumper, competing on the Penn State Equestrian team for all 4 years.

She is a 2013 graduate of Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, where she focused primarily on large animal medicine. Following graduation, she moved to Wyoming to work in a busy mixed animal practice, working largely on working ranch horses and western sport horses.

She and her husband (the other Dr. Pelensky DVM) moved back to Pennsylvania to raise their 2 boys closer to family. She is excited to be part of the equine medicine and surgery team at Abington. In her free time she enjoys spending time with family, outdoor sports, and of course riding.
